An Instant New York Times Bestseller

I’m so excited that The Color of Death placed on the New York Times bestsellers list. The New York Times Best Seller list is widely considered the preeminent list of best-selling books in the United States and has been published weekly since October 12, 1931.

When I first began writing, it’s no secret that everyone told me I’d never finish a book, let alone make it as a writer. After writing a few novels, they told me that it didn’t matter. They said I didn’t have an agent or a publisher, so I was just an independent hack. Then I hit the Wall Street Journal bestseller list. They said that success wouldn’t last, and said, “It’s not the New York Times. That’s the list that really matters.”

If my mother hadn’t raised me as well as she did, I’d be really tempted to reach out to those same folks and ask, “How do you like me now?!”
